The
World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) is an
autonomous, non-profit research organization whose vision is a rural
transformation in the developing world resulting in a massive increase
in the
use of trees in agricultural landscapes by smallholder households for
improved
food security, nutrition, income, health, shelter, energy and
environmental
sustainability. ICRAF is one of the 15 centres supported by the
Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).
Headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, ICRAF conducts
research in 23 countries in Africa, Southeast Asia, South Asia and
Latin
America.
The Position:
The
World Agroforestry Centre is seeking to hire
a creative and energetic individual to become the Resource Mobilization
Manager. The Manager will report to the Director General and will
coordinate
the institution’s fundraising efforts to support our mission. S/he will
be
responsible for developing and implementing a detailed resource
mobilization
strategy, as well as strengthening capacity for resource mobilization
throughout the organization. The primary focus is on expanding the
available
multilateral, bilateral, corporate and foundation resource base.
Responsibilities:
- In
collaboration with senior management, identify new
funding opportunities within multilateral, bilateral, corporate and
foundation
donor communities to support the Centre’s program areas.
- Develop,
implement and
regularly update strategies for resource mobilization with a focus on
expanding
the available resource base, and provide regular reporting on the
progress of
the fundraising plan.
- Oversee
development and writing of highly competitive
grant proposals in coordination with senior staff, and ensure that the
technical content of proposals is precise and accurate.
- Enhance
the Centre’s
internal fundraising capabilities by working closely with staff at all
levels.
- Analyze
and communicate key strategic, organizational and external issues
affecting the
Centre and its fundraising activities.
- Support
the establishment and maintenance
of excellent relations with donors and investors. Develop systems to
manage
donor relations, including donor database, financial processing, and
reporting.
- Develop
and maintain a thorough understanding of agroforestry issues in order
to speak
effectively about the Centre’s work with potential donors.
- Serve as
a key
liaison for all of the Centre’s fundraising efforts. Support the
development of
regional and global partnerships with key donors.
- Collaborate
with the Centre’s
communications team to develop promotional materials that strengthen
its
profile.
Qualifications and
Requirements:
- Master’s
or equivalent degree in international
development, agriculture or forest sciences, biological or social
sciences
and/or environmental/natural resources sciences.
- At least
ten years of
demonstrated experience in raising research funds, including writing
proposals.
Previous experience working with multilateral, bilateral, corporate and
foundation donors is highly desired.
- Experience
in developing and implementing
marketing strategies.Proven strategic planning and execution abilities.
- Experience
working with national and regional research institutes and consortia in
developing countries is preferred.
- Demonstrated
ability to work in an
interdisciplinary environment, both independently and in a team setting.
- Management
or organizational experience, including a proven ability to work on a
variety
of tasks simultaneously, and perform well under pressure. Ability to
meet deadlines
and prioritize workloads.
- Demonstrated
skills and ability to coordinate and
elicit individual and group participation, and to lead team efforts and
joint
endeavors. Skills in facilitation and conflict resolution are important.
- Excellent
written and oral communication skills. Fluency in English required.
- Computer
skills are necessary.
- Willingness
to be based in Nairobi, Kenya and able to do
frequent international travel.
- Knowledge
and familiarity with the CGIAR and/or
other international development organizations is a distinct advantage.
