Management Sciences for Health (MSH) saves lives and improves health, especially among the world’s poorest and most vulnerable people, by closing the gap between knowledge and action in public health.  Working from more than 30 country offices and our Arlington, Virginia, and Cambridge, Massachusetts, home offices, our staff from 65 nations is highly regarded for its technical expertise, integrity, and commitment to making a lasting difference in health.

MSH seeks a Deputy Project Director to provide leadership in establishing both the strategic vision and technical direction of the ESD II Project, especially with regard to family planning/reproductive health programming and related disciplines such as maternal newborn child health or HIV, particularly within the context of health system strengthening (HSS) programming. The Deputy ensures that state-of-the-art scientific and research findings are built into program design and technical approaches, with a resulting transfer of learning and enhanced capacity to the field.   The Deputy supervises and provides strategic guidance to technical staff and works closely with the Project’s country directors, regional directors, and technical advisors to design successful project outcomes, participating in community, facility, and national\regional program planning.

In addition, the Deputy responds to, and interacts with, the USAID project management team, USAID Mission Health, Population, and Nutrition (HPN) staff, project partners, and appropriate country counterparts on technical and implementation issues.  He or she also coordinates project activities with USAID Cooperating Agencies, regional and sub-regional organizations, technical advisory groups, and other technical working groups in the area of reproductive health/family planning, maternal/child health, HIV/AIDS and other areas as identified.  The Deputy advises the Project Director on management activities essential to achieving project technical outcomes and serves as Acting Director in his or her absence.  He or she provides technical oversight in work plan development and implementation in collaboration with the Project Director and Monitoring and Evaluation Senior Advisor. The Deputy assists the Field Operations/Country Programs Manager in the preparation and validation of  budgets and forecasts for project activities and for the overall project as needed.
