Director of New Business Development and Fundraising
Client: The Eurasia Foundation (http://www.eurasia.org/)
Reports to: President of the Eurasia Foundation
Location: Washington, DC

Position Summary
Reporting to the President, the Director of New Business Development and Fundraising is responsible for identifying and pursuing program and fundraising opportunities, building networks, and creating partnerships to secure financial support for Eurasia Foundation.  In consultation with senior management and the Development Committee of the EF Board of Trustees, the Director develops overall fundraising and communications strategy for the Foundation, manages the execution of those plans, and is responsible for reaching agreed targets.  The Director encourages coordination of fundraising efforts throughout the Network and leads the Network-wide Development Task Force.  The Director manages a Development staffer and Communications staffer, and is assisted in program design and proposal assembly by the program and finance departments—both in DC and around the Network.

Principle Duties & Responsibilities

Program Development and Fundraising (75%)

Working closely with the President and the Development Committee of the Board, create overall development strategy and manage implementation of annual fundraising and communications plans.

Working closely with staff colleagues, Network partners, and Trustees, identify prospects, develop initiatives, and submit proposals to the US government, European governments, private sector donors and individuals.

Support the President in the identification and cultivation of new business opportunities.  Work with staff colleagues and Network partners to contribute to the project design process during proposal preparation.

Provide staff support to the Development Committee of the Board.  Assist all Trustees in executing fundraising assignments on behalf of EF.  Help secure 100% financial support from Board.  

Work with staff colleagues and Network partners to ensure timely reporting and compliance with grant requirements.

Communications, Knowledge Management and Network Coordination (25%)

Manage development and communications staff.  Design and execute communications strategies in collaboration with relevant departments. Design and manage events, such as the Bill Maynes Fellows reception and annual dinner.


Lead Development Task Force, comprised of development officers from all Network foundations.  Encourage coordination of fundraising and communications throughout the Network.

Develop innovative and appropriate ways to source, track and compile project data and lessons learned for dissemination throughout Network.

Promote sound practices through regular communications with partners.

With support from Information Services department, maintain and develop donor database and social networking tools, including Raiser’s Edge, EF website, mailing lists, e-bulletins, Twitter and FaceBook.

Provide fundraising technical support to partner foundations as appropriate.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in the areas of international relations, marketing, communications, or public administration.  Master’s degree preferred.

Experience: Seven years progressively responsible roles in designing programs and preparing proposals that resulted in US government funding.  Strong written and oral communications skills, strategic planning, organizational skills required.  Experience cultivating gifts from foundations, international donors and corporations preferred.  Combination of years experience plus degree is acceptable.

Other: Demonstrated ability to meet revenue goals; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (written and oral) and working directly with Boards of Directors and Development Committees; experience in the Eurasia region, Central Europe or Afghanistan and Russian language skills highly desirable.  Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge preferred.
